Day 2:  Arrival at Charles De Gaulle International Airport. After enjoying lunch on our own, take a Walking Tour of Paris: Luxembourg Gardens (including the impressive Palais du Luxembourg, where Marquis de Lafayette was raised), Notre Dame Cathedral (where we will step inside and marvel at its grand interior), Place de la Bastille, where we will see the  Maison de Victor Hugo, and Paris’ National Opera House.  After the tour, enjoy a free evening and some deep sleep.

Day 3: After continental breakfast at the hotel, we will start with a morning visit to the Shoah Memorial, Paris’ holocaust museum. See the memorial wall of those deported to Nazi camps, many startling and poignant pictures, and artifacts from the era.  Board pubic transit for our visit the The Eiffel Tower, one of the most iconic sites in the world. There we will have plenty of time for pictures and for descent and stroll in the Parc du Champ de Maradjacent to the tower.  After lunch on our own, we will walk diagonal from the Bir Hakeim Metro stop to peer down Rue Nelaton, where the Velodrome d’Hiver stood in 1942, the site of the infamous Vel d’Hiv round up. We’ll continue a short walk to a square dedicated to the 12,000 Jewish people rounded up during WWII and then housed in an indoor cycle stadium (capacity of 9,000!) before being deported to Auschwitz. At this square, view the Walter Spitzer sculpture commemorating the victims—some children as young as six—dedicated by President Jacque Chirac in 1995.  Nearby, find Avenue Elisee Reclus and see the beautiful apartment building where Helene Berr lived during the Nazi Occupation of Paris.  After these somber thoughts, visit the The Champs-Elyséesfor exploring and shopping.  Evening is free.

Day 4:   After breakfast at the hotel, explore the Louvre Museum.  The Louvre, originally a royal palace but now the world’s most famous museum, is a must-visit for anyone coming to Paris. Some of the museum’s most celebrated works of art include the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. The magnificent, baroque-style palace and museum sits along the banks of the Seine and is one of the city’s biggest tourist attractions and one of the largest and most important museums in the world. Afterwards, enjoy lunch on your own and then a stroll in the lovely adjacent Tuileries Gardens.  Visit the imposing La Madeleine, designed in  the style of a Greek temple in 1764 and dedicated to Mary Magdalene in 1845.  Back to the hotel for a brief rest before shopping for and enjoying a Luxembourg Gardens picnic dinner.

Day 5:  After breakfast at the hotel, our guide will take us on a Walking Tour of Montmartre & Marais District.  Montmartre served as mentor for most of the famous artists of the past 150 years: Dali, Modigliani, Monet, Picasso, and Van Gough.  Visit the stunning Basilica de Sacre Coeurand view the entire city from its steep front steps, the highest point in Paris.  Walk through the Marais district.  Long-time aristocratic district of Paris, the Marais hosts many outstanding buildings of historic and architectural importance.  Today this area is the trendiest shopping district in Paris, with the top stores in Rue des Francs-Bourgeois and Rue des Rosiers.

Day 6:  After breakfast at the hotel, we will explore The Latin Quarter, named after the language thousands came here to study.  See the impressive old houses on Mouffetard market street and the Church of St. Etienne-du Mont, an area associated with famous writers like Joyce, Orwell, Hugo, and immortalized by Hemingway in A Moveable Feast.  Tour part of the Sorbonne, one of the most famous universities in the world, known the world over in the nineteenth century for its medical school.  Free time for shopping and exploring. Back to the hotel and then our picnic dinner in Luxembourg Gardens.  We will end our memorable visit to the City of Light with a boat cruise on the Seine.

Day 7: Early breakfast at the hotel, and then journey back to Charles de Gaulle and back to the U.S., carrying along some souvenirs in our luggage and many unforgettable memories in our minds.
